Finding the perfect bottle for Giovanni has been an important task for me since my pregnancy. If you walk into any baby store you can find shelf after shelf of different bottle brands and options. So whats the big deal, right? Just pick one and move on.
I don’t remember having any trouble introducing my oldest to the bottle. My daughter was a completely different story. She NEVER successfully took the bottle and I nursed her until she was about 1 1/2 years old. Part of our problem was probably that I waited until she was 3 months old to try to introduce the bottle because I was so worried about possible nipple confusion. The other problem was the bottle I was using. I didn’t use any special bottles designed for breast feeding babies, I simply tried using the bottles and nipples that came with my breast pump and they weren’t exactly the best option for a nursing baby.
This time around I wanted things to be different. I knew I was planning on nursing again, but I also knew that this time I needed to be able to give Gio the bottle from time to time as well.
On our very first try introducing Gio to a bottle I tried a new brand. It seemed to be better designed for a nursing baby. Gio took it but he just didn’t seem to enjoy it. His eyes were huge and and looked very watery, almost like he was scared. While I was happy that he took the bottle his expression was concerning to me so I decided I would try again with a new bottle.
This time around I tried the Nuby Natural Touch bottle.
These bottles are made with a super soft and wide nipple specifically for nursing babies, designed to make the breast to bottle transition as smooth as possible. It was such a relief to see Gio latch on quickly on our very first try!
