Oral health care is so important for everyone, especially our children! I know many children dread the time of day when they need to brush their teeth, and parents dread the fight to come with it. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be this way!
Today I’m sharing 5 tips to help you get through brushing your children’s teeth without the fuss. Using these tips, your children will actually look forward to brushing their teeth!
5 Tips for No Fuss Toddler Dental Care
1. Start them young. How young is young? I probably started with my kids when they were about 2 or 3 months old. You can use a damp, warm wash cloth to “brush” your baby’s gums or use a special baby gum massager.
2. Toddler toothbrushes. When your children are old enough to handle a toddler toothbrush, hook them up! My kids love their Nuby Toothbrushes! Not only are they the perfect size for the kids, but they also come in fun colors.
3. Special toothpaste. At this point in time, I haven’t yet used toothpaste on Gio, though we do use Nuby’s All Natural Training Toothpaste with Isabella. She always feels like such a big girl while brushing her teeth with her special toothpaste and I find that she is more motivated to do a good job than she is without it.
Nuby’s all natural toothpaste is safe if swallowed and contains no fluoride, no sodium lauryl sulfate, no parabens, no artificial colors and no artificial flavors.
4. Make it fun! One of our favorite things to do when it comes to brushing teeth (mostly in the evenings) is to play Elmo’s Brushy Brush Your Teeth song as we’re brushing.
I typically brush my teeth while Isabella gives it a go and once I’m done with myself, I ask if I can check out her teeth and help her by getting the harder to reach areas.
5. Routine. We are big on routine around here. While we do have exceptions, especially while traveling or during the crazy busy holiday season, a good solid routine really helps to keep us on our toes. Every morning, after breakfast, Isabella knows its time to head to the bathroom to brush her teeth and every night we have the same routine which always includes a good brush before bed.

So adorable! I completely agree that routine helps! We sing the ABC song! Gabriel gets one round because he has less teeth, Isabella gets the song twice!
Yeah Gio just kind of follows along and gets less attention at this point too. Show them this Elmo video. You'll never get this song out of your head. LOL
Charlotte and Ellie love to chew on the brushes. For the actual brushing, we have toothbrushes that light up for the time needed.
Thats a great idea!
We use apps
What types of apps do you use?
so sweet! we go in phases over here of liking to brush and not.
LOL I feel like it was that way with my first.
I have my little watch me brush. She laughs and associates that when I bring her toothbrush out.
Yes!! We do this as well. Set the example by being the example!
I started at 3 months old when she only had gums to get her into the habit. I've always made funny noises while I do it too. She LOVES brush time now!
Aww, thats so sweet.
I totally use the Elmo video too! My daughter loves it. I usually brush her teeth, and then let her do it, so she gets to do it too.
I have such a love hate relationship with this video. My kids love it but I can never get it out of my head after hearing it. LOL
We always sing and do a little dance and I always brush mine with my son (it's like a little bonding thing!) works wonders because he thinks it's a game then (: mom win!!
Yes, #momgoals 🙂
Trying to keep it part of the regular routine and yummy toothpaste! (IG name Kay43016)
Great tips! Good luck!
Gotta have that routine! I need to check out that toothpaste too. Christian doesn't care for the taste of his.
Finding a good and safe toothpaste can be a struggle. Isabella seems to love our Nuby toothpaste. 🙂
I tell them to "open up like a hippopotamus" and they open up and let me brush.

Thats a great idea!
Start them young. Let them start out brushing so they get to do it themselves and then I finish it off to make sure I get every tooth good.
Bree
I agree, that seems to work best for us too.
She's not coming until February but this article is super helpful for when the time comes <3 – @tehlilone on instagram 🙂
Congratulations and good luck to you!
We're still working on it here but it's getting better. Sensory issues for both of my boys.
Routine is so important!
So cute! My kids always have loved brushing teeth though so I was a bit lucky lol
Great tips Nicole! Honestly, trying to brush Adalynn's teeth is one of my least favorite things! I love tip #3, that's such a cute idea!
