In just 8 short days, my new favorite show will be returning for its second season on USA. Any guesses as to which show I’m talking about?? I’ll give you a hint.. the main character is a badass Latina woman named Teresa.
That’s right, I’m talking about Queen of the South!
Never heard of it? Let me break it down for you without spoiling the show completely.
While living in Jalisco, Mexico, a poor woman named Teresa falls in love with El Güero, a member of a huge drug cartel. After a drug deal goes wrong, Teresa is forced to run for her life. She ends up in America, where she becomes entangled in the business that got her boyfriend into trouble. The beginning of season one explains that Teresa ends up starting her own drug empire, becoming one of the world’s wealthiest women in the process but discovers that money doesn’t fix everything. She can only depend on herself if she wants stay alive.
From the first episode I was pulled in and as I continued to watch the first season, I couldn’t help but be in awe over the strong women depicted in this show. Teresa is such a badass and slays at everything she does which leads her to become Queen of the South. This got me to thinking…
How do I slay? What am I Queen of?
It didn’t take long for me to find my answer, as its plainly obvious to anyone who is close to me.
I am the Queen of the Mama Hustle!
Life as a blogging stay at home mom of three is pretty awesome… and also pretty chaotic 99.9% of the time. My two youngest children are 2 years apart and are always fighting over everything from toys to my attention. Talking on the phone has become nonexistent for me because they will literally scream “MOM!” from the moment I say hello until the moment that I give a very rushed “bye”. They are like crazy little people.
Crazy little people that I just love to pieces!
Some days at home with the kids are a breeze while others are not. I find myself venturing off into new business opportunities as each day passes which is amazing but also a bit overwhelming at times. Add my kids to the mix and, well, things can get a bit hyphy up in here. If there is anything I’ve learned from being a work at home mom over the last couple of years, its to give myself a break and occasionally indulge in a little “me time”.
How I make time for ME!
1. I get pedicures. I don’t go as often as I use to but I’ve made it a habit to go at least once every 3 weeks. I also opt in for the “extra’s” that provide for longer leg and foot massages. Work hard, play hard!
2. I shower without an audience. This might sound weird to someone who doesn’t yet have kids, but just you wait. You basically can’t do anything alone, including showering or using the restroom. If I am unable to shower alone in the morning before my kids wake up, I make a point to go in for a second (or sometimes first) shower for the day when my husband comes home from work. Is it weird that I find it a luxury to wash my hair with my eyes closed??
3. I let them sleep!
This may seem like an obvious thing, but keep reading. I’m not talking about early or late naps. I’m talking about those car naps that happen just as we are pulling up into the driveway. I’ve learned over the years not to bother risking taking them out and having them wake up – because 7 times out of 10 they will not go back down which means they will be a cranky mess for the rest of the day. So if we happen to pull up to the house and the kids are passed out, I’ll hang back in the car and catch up with emails, social media, or maybe even get a little snoozer in myself!
<——- This is me enjoying a quiet lunch in the car as my kids nap! Haha
Mom life at its finest!
4. I get out of the house without the kids!
Now, I have to admit, this one does not happen nearly as often as it should. In fact, this year alone I’ve gotten out without them more than I had in the last two years before. You know what I’ve learned? The kids will be ok! Leave them with a trusted family member or babysitter and enjoy yourself!
5. I binge watch my favorite TV shows like Queen of the South once the kids are in bed!
I’m not kidding when I tell you that my husband and I knocked out the entire first season after a long weekend home. We took advantage of every nap and early bed time… we may have even stayed up way past our own bedtimes without realizing it. This show sucked us in!
I’m counting down the days for the new season to start on the USA Network, June 8th at 10/9c.
If you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, or haven’t finished Season 1, there is still time! Queen of the South is available now on Netflix.
I’m still in shock at the Season 1 ending and cannot wait to see how this plays out in Season 2!
Be sure to tune in for the Season 2 premier of Queen of the South on the USA Network next week, June 8th at 10/9c!
So now I want to know, have you seen the show? If so, how can you relate to Teresa? If not, I want to know how you slay and what you are Queen of! Tell me in the comments below!
