You know I couldn’t let National Breast Feeding week end without doing a nursing related post! I mean, what better time to share one of my favorite hospital gifts to give to a new nursing mama… a nursing basket.
What is a nursing basket?
Its a basket (or a box) that contains anything and everything a new mom might need to help make this new time in their lives a little easier. As many of you already know, my sister is currently pregnant with her second baby so I’ve been getting creative, or trying to at least, with fun and unique baby shower gifts. My sister is planning on breastfeeding again so I thought that this nursing basket would make the perfect gift for her.
What goes in a nursing basket?
Anything and everything you can think of that a nursing mom may need! The options are endless and this is where you can let your creative instincts kick in. Not the creative type? No problem! I put together a quick list of a few of my favorite nursing related items below!

Baby Swaddle (Use GIO10 at checkout to save 10%)
Babies love to be swaddled and these swaddle blankets are my absolute favorite! They are super oversized making swaddling a cinch and are super soft. My little guy still walks around with his at almost 2 years old!
Nursing doesn’t always come easy and some find that they need an extra boost to help get their supply going. Mother’s Milk Tea is the perfect solution! Any time I drank a cup of this tea I felt a difference within hours.
I don’t have experience with these myself, but I have heard wonderful things about them helping to boost supply and to have around for a quick snack while you are nursing your little one.
When you are nursing a baby you find that you are sitting a lot of the day, especially in the early days of nursing. There has never been a better time to sit down with a good book and enjoy!
While some people don’t mind reading a book from their phone or iPad, I always felt funny having the phone so close to my baby’s head so I always opted for an actual book. (I just prefer them anyway!) At night it became hard to read so this clip reading light came in handy!
Water Bottle/Coffee Tumbler (Use NICOLE at checkout to save 15%)
Because any experienced nursing mama will tell you that you must stay hydrated!! I carry this water bottle everywhere with me and found it very helpful while nursing! I know most people cut out coffee all together while nursing but this mama did not.. This coffee tumbler gets a lot of love!
These nursing pads are not only adorably cute but they are also incredibly soft! Definitely a nursing mama must have!
Nursing a newborn can be torture on mom’s nipples in the first few weeks and many find they need to apply something to aid with soreness.
Finding a good nursing bra can be a difficult task but I promise you, you will love this yoga nursing bra! It has clips to easily and discretely feed your little one any time of day or night!
Many mothers are comfortable without covers but for some, it takes time to get to that comfort level. These are my favorite covers because they are multi-use and can also be used as a scarf for mom, a shopping cart cover and car seat cover. Seriously, best invention, ever!
