Maternity photos are taking Pinterest by storm and there’s no question why. Pregnancy is such a beautiful, magical time and documenting the days leading up to birth is something I recommend that everyone does – with or without the help of a professional photographer.
As my sister was nearing the end of her pregnancy, I took every opportunity to photograph her and her belly. Since we had already done the fancy milk bath session, we stuck with mostly light and silly settings, right from the comfort of my own home.
All of these photos were taken against my sliding glass door where I get a great amount of light that comes through. The key to the white background is a combination of sheer curtains and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom editing. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice I take a lot of photos in this area because I love the look! Its super easy to achieve and keeps my feed bright, which is what I aim for.
To give you an idea of the minimal editing process needed to achieve this look, I’ve provided an example of a before and after photo below.
I simply added highlights with a touch of exposure and lowered the temperature a bit. To eliminate the patchy areas you see on both sides of the “before” photo, I used Lightroom’s cloning tool. To someone who is unfamiliar with Lightroom this may seem a bit confusing, but I promise that it is really very simple! If you are new to photography and learning on your own, I highly recommend that you check out as many YouTube tutorials as possible. There is so much FREE help out there!

While photography has always been a passion of mine, I in no way consider myself a professional photographer. Perhaps you could call me a hobbyist at best. I’d love to one day make a career out of it, but for now, this is my journey.
I’m always happy to answer any questions you have, to the best of my ability, so feel free to leave any questions in the comments below!
