Anyone who knows me knows that I am a photoholic. If my camera is not in hand, it’s within arms reach. I photograph my children daily. Sometimes for my blog and sometimes just because. Whatever the reason is, I just can’t stop. Going through my photos recently, I realized that I am short on photos of myself with my kids. Out of the hundreds of photos I take each month, (yes, I said hundreds!) I have maybe one of me and my kids – sometimes even less.
I strongly believe in the importance of Mothers being included in the photographs with their children. Most of us are usually the photographers in our own families and often forget to get involved or, let’s be honest, we don’t like how we look at that very moment… (and if that is the case, you need to read this post written by a good friend of mine).
I realized that I needed to change this.
My kids will want to look back at all the photos we’ve taken of them with their dad, siblings, cousins, etc… and see photographs of themselves with their mom! This is exactly the reason why I decided that this year when I booked our family photo session for our annual Christmas cards, that I was also going to book a shoot just for me and the kids. Not because I believe that every photo I’m in needs to be professionally taken (on the contrary, sometimes the truest candid moments caught with a cell phone camera are the best pictures) but because I felt like, “why not?”.

I know that in the years to come, my children will look forward to looking back at these beautiful photos, as will I.
