Being a stay-at-home mom means that I don’t have to wake up extra early and prepare to meet dress code standards from a demanding job. My bosses are 4 and 2, and frankly, they don’t care what I’m wearing as long as their pancakes are served in a timely manner each morning. In fact, I can get away with wearing the same outfit two days in a row and they wouldn’t bat an eye. This doesn’t go to say that I don’t put a little bit of effort into making myself look presentable. I am human after all.
When I traded in my 4-inch heels for flats almost five years ago, everything about my style changed. I went from stylish working mom to stylish, yet comfortable, mom.
With 2 toddlers to chase after, my number one requirement for anything I wear is comfort. Sometimes I’m carrying my 2-year-old down the stairs while my 4-year-old hangs from my back. Other times, I’m chasing my kids in the front yard with a ball. Finding the happy medium between comfortable yet stylish wasn’t as hard as I thought it to be. Sometimes you just need to stop overthinking it and go with what feels right.
Check out my 5 basic style tips for moms below.
COMFY PANTIES AND BRA
I’m getting personal with this one, ladies! It doesn’t matter if you have the most beautiful dress or the comfiest pair of cutoff shorts on – if you’re in uncomfortable, unbreathable, too tight panties, you are bound to feel your self-confidence plummet. My favorite pair of comfortable panties are the Fruit of the Loom’s new EverLight panties, because they provide the all-day comfort that I need as a busy mama. They are made from a lightweight micro-mesh fabric that feels incredibly soft while providing a breathable 4-way stretch. I pretty much live in these panties and love how I can wear them under anything without worrying about a panty line! (That’s right ladies, I wear them under yoga pants and you’d never know it!)

WEAR THE PROPER SIZE
This one may be debatable for some, and don’t get me wrong, I love a good baggy tee. But there is a fine line between a fun baggy tee and a tee that is 2 sizes too big for you. I can’t tell you how long I walked around in my maternity tops before I decided it was time to trade them out for tops that actually flattered my body. If you feel as though your clothes are a little loose, don’t be afraid to get out there and try the next size down. You may just surprise yourself!
FIND A CUTE HAT AND/OR INVEST IN A GOOD DRY SHAMPOO
This especially holds true in the days following a birth or sickness. While you certainly don’t need to prove yourself to anyone, you may decide that you do still want to look somewhat put together. Don’t be afraid to throw your hair up with a hat or cover those unwashed roots with your favorite dry shampoo. These things are things that should really be included in all baby shower gift guides for moms! lol
DON’T BE AFRAID TO ADD AN ACCESSORY
I know jewelry with young kids is not necessarily practical, but it can be fun and definitely helps to add a little something to any outfit. If you have young babies who are teething you can even find cute teething necklaces for yourself to wear.
I’m a firm believer that all moms should own a nice comfy pair of sneakers and sandals. Running after kids is a full time job in itself – some days I feel as though I’ve ran a marathon. So while its true that I still have a few good pairs of heels tucked away in my closet for date nights, during the day when I’m home with my kids, you’ll only find me in my comfiest pair of flats.
