Paid endorsement A Wrinkle in Time on behalf of Walt Disney Studios
Coming home from a weekend vacation is always bitter sweet. While we may be missing the excitement of Disneyland, we sure do love being in the comfort of our home! We arrived home late Monday and pretty much only had time to bring in our luggage and take baths before bedtime, but the next day? The next day was all about relaxation. I left the piles of laundry, the packed luggage by the door and declared Tuesday an official Family Movie Day In with Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time!
Many of you know that this movie is based off the beloved classic novel written by Madeleine L’Engle. And before you read any further, I think you should know one thing – I’ve never read A Wrinkle In Time. ? I do realize that saying this out loud, or writing this in my blog post may make some of you gasp in shock, but do know that I’ve already added the book to my summer reading list!
My kids were pretty excited about this movie because, well, they love all things Disney! I on the other hand was more excited about the movie because of the impressive line up! With the likes of Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah Winfrey there was no way this movie could disappoint.
Our overall thoughts after the movie?
It was great! My little one wasn’t quite as impressed as the rest of us, but it was definitely over his head a bit so that was to be expected (he is only 2 after all.). There were a few parts here and there that caught his eye, but for the most part, he wandered back and forth from the couch the play room. And while I’m speaking honestly, it was a little over my daughter’s head during some parts as well – she had a lot of questions – but she sat through the entire movie and said she loved it!
If you are like me, and aren’t familiar with the book, I’ll give you a quick run down of the movie without spoiling anything for you. The movie is based on heroine Meg Murry who is guided by three celestial guides (along with her brother, Charles Wallace as well as her friend, Calvin) on her journey across dimensions to save her father (who has been missing for 4 years) from the forces of evil in the universe.
As a parent, I really enjoyed the messages conveyed in this movie. Topics such as bullying and self confidence are covered. In the beginning of the movie, Meg is a struggling eighth grader who finds her strength through her epic journey. Meg finds that her faults are not necessarily weaknesses, but in fact, they can be the biggest gifts if you know how to use them.
If you have young children I would say that this movie is definitely worth watching with them – maybe have your own family movie day/night in. Not only is the storyline great, but the visual effects and costume designs were incredible! My daughter especially loved the enchanting places that Meg travels to in the movie.
