If you live in Northern California, you are probably well aware of the housing market. Prices have spiked, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, making it difficult for families and first time home buyers alike. While browsing for homes there recently, I found a 94 year old 2-bedroom home with 897 square feet listed at $2.5 million. That’s $2,787 a square foot! It’s no surprise that Bay Area folks have decided to venture out to more affordable area’s like Mountain House, California to put down new roots.
Not only do you get more square footage (at a much more reasonable price) but you also get extra amenities like a 3 car garage, yard space, separate in-law’s quarters and the possibility of a detached studio or bedroom suite.
Last month, Mountain House had a grand opening of three new neighborhoods and 10 new model homes. I unfortunately was unable to attend the big event, but did manage to make the trip out last week to check out the neighborhoods and homes for myself and have to say I was very impressed!
Check out the slide shows below for each new neighborhood.
Cascada at Cordes by Woodside Homes
Cascada at Cordes offers three model homes that are beautifully crafted and designed in Cool Classic, Cool Contemporary and Warm Eclectic themes. One of the models features a bedroom suite detached from the home, above the garage while another features a detached studio, above the garage. These homes start at the upper $500,000’s.

Savannah II by Signature Homes
Savannah II by Signature Homes have the smallest homes out of the three new neighborhoods, but don’t let the size fool you. As you can see from my photos above, they are still quite spacious and would best fit small families, couples or perhaps first time home buyers. These homes start from the low $500,000s.
- Approximately 1,966 – 2,324 Square Feet
- 35′ x 85′ Lot Size
- 2 Car Garage
- 3 – 4 Bedrooms
- 2.5 – 3 Baths
Wellington by Richmond American Homes
These homes are quite large and perfect for large families, or those who love to entertain! The open floor plan is what dreams are made of and the separate in-laws quarters are perfect for parents who would like they’re own space while staying close to their loved ones. These models start from the low $700,000’s.
- Approximately 3,160 – 3,590
- 60′ x 100′ Lot Size
- 2 – 3 Car Garage
- 3 – 7 Bedrooms
- 2.5 – 4.5 Baths
As you can see, each of these three new neighborhoods has a little bit of something for everyone. One thing that stood these new homes apart from the previous homes I’ve toured in the past was that they were all made with huge open floor plans (something I really wish my own home had). Even in their smallest homes, you are able to walk around and not feel crowded in any sense whatsoever.
I recently polled my good friends through social media, asking them what important features/qualities they looked for when buying a new home. Nearly all of them said they looked for a great neighborhood, open floor space, a great kitchen and a decent yard for their children. Each of these new homes provide all that and more!
If you are considering the idea of buying a home that will give you more bang for your buck, I highly recommend that you make the drive to check these neighborhoods and homes out for yourself. You may just find yourself saying, “Honey, we’re home!”.
