Preparing your home for a holiday party can be stressful! I know from previous years experience – no matter how big or small your home, you feel like your to-do list is never ending. Am I right?! Well, how would you feel if I told you it didn’t have to be that way? Simply follow this guide to help you get your home pre-party ready in no time and you’ll be ready to enjoy all the festivities along side your guests in no time!
Make a list
Before I host anything at my home, I typically do a quick walk through. I start at the front door and make my way into the home to see what my guests will see when they arrive. As I notice things I need to take care of, I make notes on a notepad to reference back to once I get started. List making guarantees that I won’t forget even the tiniest detail and also helps remove pesky “to-do” thoughts from my head.
Instead of focusing on the entire home, try focusing on the area’s where your guests are likely to be hanging out. At our home, this means I can almost completely eliminate the entire upstairs. I usually end up focusing on our living room, dining room and the kitchen. I have three main goals when I’m preparing our home for a party: reduce clutter, get organized and ensure our guests will be comfortable.
Don’t Forget about the Bathrooms
I hate to admit this, but during the first party I ever hosted, I ran out of toilet paper. Talk about an embarrassing moment. What can I say, I was a rookie back then. Anytime you are hosting guests over, be sure to check your toilet paper stock and that you have plenty of soap and hand towels available to your guests. I also like to include a little basket of women’s toiletries under the sink, just in case…
Polish Party Spaces
The big day is here and now its time to lightly go over the party areas. This is when I (or one of my little helpers) reach for my Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner. I love how gently and quickly it is at effectively removing dust and dirt around the house. Bonus points because its GREENGUARD GOLD certified. This means its designed to be safe for use on hardwood floors and around our family… including our fur babies!LEARN MORE ABOUT BONA HERE
Deck the HallsBig or small, go on and show off your tree! I typically only focus on one room for our holiday decor, and its always the room where are Christmas tree stands. I like to decorate our fireplace mantel with our stockings and a few other festive decorations.
Prepare Food in Advance
No one wants to be stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is having fun without them. If you are hosting a full on meal, try an easy recipe that you can stick in the oven or crockpot with little to no follow up required.
Who doesn’t love Christmas music?! A few days before your party, create a fun and festive playlist that will help set the mood, just be sure to keep the volume low enough for your guests to mingle.
If you are planning a white elephant gift exchange, always be sure to have a few extra wrapped gifts just in case a guest forgets one. Shopping early on or scoring Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals can help save you a little cash in the process.
Enjoy Your Party
This is perhaps the most important step. All your hard work has paid off and everyone is enjoying the party which means that you should be too!
