Just about everyone I know (including myself) has made some type of vow to get healthier this year. The last few months I have been terrible to my body. Eating unhealthy, over indulging, not getting enough water intake and not moving my body enough. I’m guilty of it all! So this year, I’m vowing to be better to myself. For me, this is a much easier goal to attain than vowing to lose “x” amount of pounds.
These are some of the things that I plan to do differently this year in order to reach my goal of being a healthier me.
Join a Gym
I know what you’re thinking… gyms are expensive and there is just no room for it in the budget right now. But guess what? You’re wrong! Right now Planet Fitness has an amazing deal going on! Their “Get Down With Your Judgement Free Self” sale is pretty awesome. The sale gives you access to Planet Fitness for just $10/month with no commitment membership fee and a $1 enrollment fee. Also included in your membership? Free fitness training, brand name cardio and strength equipment, fully equipped locker rooms, flat screen televisions, unlimited small group fitness instruction by a certified trainer through the pe @ pf® program, and SO MUCH MORE. You get ALL of this for basically the price of 2 lattes from Starbucks a month! The catch? There is none, but this offer does end on January 15th, so if are in the market for a new gym membership, act fast! You can find out more about Planet Fitness, here.
Go to Bed Earlier
One of my biggest unhealthy habits is staying up way past what one would consider a decent bedtime. It is so easy to get lost in work once the kids are put to bed without any interruptions. (It’s just as easy as getting lost in a really good NetFlix movie!) I think by now, if I’ve learned anything as an adult, it is that sleep is essential my mental health. It makes a world of a difference when you get 8 hours of sleep versus 6.
Include Veggies with Breakfast
I admit it, I don’t eat enough veggies in a day. One easy way to up your veggie intake? Including them with breakfast. Make yourself a delicious veggie omelet or go ahead and add veggies on as a side to your runny eggs and slices of bacon. When I’m not in the mood for eggs, I grab a piece of gluten free toast and smother it in avocado’s. It is SO good and such an easy way to add more veggies to any diet!
Up My Water IntakeSurprisingly when I worked away from home, I found it was easier to drink a minimum of 2 liters of water a day. I have no clue why – maybe because I sat at a desk all day and always had my water bottle by my side? Now that I work from home, I sometimes don’t even take my first sip of water until noon. I recently bought a bunch of water canteens and have found that they have been helpful in consuming more water each day.
Eliminate the Guilt
We all have off days. All of us!! And that is ok! Don’t let that discourage you from continuing your healthy habits. It is never too late to start up again – your body will thank you for it in the end!
How will you strive to be a healthier YOU this year?
